ADVERSITY BREEDS INNOVATION!! Corona times gave the culinary team behind two of Texas’ most acclaimed pizzerias (Cane Rosso & Zoli’s Pizza), time to experiment with a style of pizza that they knew and loved from some of their favorite pizza joints in the US, but didn’t have easy access to in Dallas, TX. With takeout and delivery being the only viable source of business during a global pandemic, Thunderbird Pies originally launched as a delivery-only Detroit-style pizza joint based in North Dallas and quickly expanded to Fort Worth. In 2021, Thunderbird Pies finally set roots in East Dallas with its first brick-and-mortar restaurant near White Rock Lake. In early 2022, Thunderbird Pies was named one of the Best New Restaurants in Texas by Texas Monthly Magazine, and the Dallas Observer chose Thunderbird Pies as one of the Top 12 New Restaurants for 2022.
